FAQs

What is Acoustic Wave Therapy?

WaveTech uses sound waves delivered through a patented, FDA-cleared device to treat conditions such as Erectile Dysfunction, Peripheral Neuropathies, Diabetic Wounds and Sports Injuries such as Tennis elbow. This therapy has been used in the United States since the 1980s. The first clinical use of the therapy was to break up kidney stones (Lithotripsy). It is also used to treat bone fractures and ischemic heart disease.

The sound waves used to break up kidney stones are concentrated high-intensity waves. Over 15 years ago a group in Germany, after years of research, began using the same technology but at a lower intensity to treat soft tissue conditions.

How does Acoustic Wave Therapy work?
When the cells in the body are exposed to low-intensity sound waves several beneficial effects occur.

• Blood vessel and nerve cells are regenerated

• Inflammation is reduced

• Stem cells (healing cells) are recruited to the area

• Pain is reduced

• New blood vessels grow

What conditions does the therapy treat?

Since areas treated get improved blood supply, stem cell recruitment, decrease in inflammation and nerve regeneration the therapy is useful for many conditions.

• Erectile Dysfunction

• Peripheral Neuropathy

• Tendonitis such as Tennis elbow and Plantar fasciitis

• Sports Injuries

What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Neuropathy is a disruption in nerve signaling. Peripheral neuropathy is neuropathy in the extremities (feet/legs and hands/arms). Some of the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy are

• Loss of feeling

• Hypersensitivity

• Sharp pain

• Burning sensation

• Numbness

• Tingling

• Freezing

What causes Neuropathy?
Its estimated that more than 20 million people in the United States have some form of peripheral neuropathy. Most cases are due to diabetes. Other causes include alcoholism and exposure to toxins such as chemotherapy agents.
What is Erectile Dysfunction (ED)?
Erectile dysfunction or impotence is the inability for a man to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex.
What causes ED?
The most common physical causes of erectile dysfunction are related to blood circulation (Vascular ED). Heart disease, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol and high blood pressure can all impact the amount of blood flowing to the penis. Diabetes contributes to ED by damaging nerves and blood vessels. Other causes of ED include medication side effects, pelvic surgery or trauma, neurological issues, and hormone imbalance.
What can we do when ED symptoms occur?

ED treatments for the most part are symptomatic. They are temporary and require medications, injections or the use of a device.  Our therapy is considered a Disease Modification Strategy. In short…. rather than a quick fix we use the low-intensity sound waves to reverse ED by bringing healing and health to this area.  Our therapy is painless, has no side-effects and requires no pills or shots.

What can I expect during my therapy?

For most conditions our trained staff uses the SoftWave applicator to apply 1500 to 2000 waves to the area of concern. The therapy is painless. Most therapy protocols consist of 2-6 applications.

Is the treatment painful?

The therapy is pain-free. If we are treating a sports injury or tendonitis there may be some discomfort in the injured area, but it resolves during therapy. You are the guide during this process.

Is the treatment covered by insurance?

Not at this time. You may use your Health Savings Plan/Flexible Spending cards to pay.

Do you offer financing?

We offer financing through Advance Care with 0% APR for up to 14 months.

Are consults free?

Yes, they are! The consult appointment is where you learn more about the therapy for your condition and a therapy protocol is determined. Most times therapy can start immediately after the consult to make efficient use of your time.
